We'll pull your property line (when available), measure the grass inside it, and then map its sun and shade. Free, no ads, and your address is not for sale.

Most lawn calculators hand you a satellite picture and a pencil. Lawn Mapper starts from your county's own property line (when available), looks at the yard through several kinds of imagery at once (aerial photos, near-infrared and lidar) and has its own AI trace the grass. Then it gives you proper tools to make the outline exact. Then its shade analyzer maps the sun and shade on that lawn from lidar, to tell you which grass will grow where.
It is free, it shows no ads, and it does not trade in your address.

| AI tracing | One press, trained on hand-traced lawns | Click every edge |
| Lawn under trees | Estimated based on logic and lidar when not visible | Left out |
| Drawing tools | Points, brushes, cutouts | A basic shape tool |
| Shade map | Built from lidar: light passes through the gaps in each tree, as it really does | Trees as solid 3D shapes, or none |
| Choosing grass | See which grass types can tolerate the different levels of shade in your lawn | Not offered |

| Your address | Never sold or passed on | Often the price of the quote |
Most shade maps build your yard from 3D imagery: a model stitched together from aerial photos, where every tree is a solid lump that blocks all of the sun. Real trees don't. Lidar is a laser survey, and its pulses slip through the gaps between leaves and branches on their way to the ground, so they record how open each crown really is.
The shade analyzer builds your property in 3D from those pulses (USGS's public 3DEP lidar, lined up with the aerial photo and your property line when available), and each tree lets through the light it actually lets through. That makes it inherently more accurate under trees, which is exactly where a lawn struggles.
Finish a lawn map and open it from the dashboard, or go straight to the shade analyzer with an address. It works wherever USGS lidar covers the address.
Property lines come from the public parcel records counties and states publish. Where none exist yet, everything else still works: you trace the line yourself, and the measurement is just as accurate.

Open Lawn Mapper and type your address, or tap the crosshair to use your location. Confirm the pin, check the property line, then press the AI step to trace the grass or draw it yourself. The square footage and acreage are shown as you go.
Yes. There are no ads, no subscription and no paid tier. AI tracing has a daily allowance to keep the costs sane, and a free account raises it.
From the parcel layers that counties and states publish as public records. They are a close guide, not a survey. Where no record exists, you draw the line yourself.
The area of the shape on the map is measured exactly; how close that shape is to your real lawn depends on the photo and the outline. The AI gives a strong starting point and the drawing tools let you fix anything it missed. Treat the result as a close estimate.
Yes. Using lidar and a tree-canopy model, it estimates grass the photo cannot see and marks that part separately, so you choose whether to count it.
Most shade maps build the yard from 3D imagery, where every tree is a solid shape that blocks all the sun. The shade analyzer builds it from lidar, a laser survey whose pulses pass through the gaps between leaves and branches, so each tree lets through the light it really does. That matters most for choosing grass: it shows which grass types can tolerate the shade in each part of the lawn.
